Theodore Samuel "Ted Williams" was born in august 30,1918. Ted Williams wasnt just a ball player he also served his country World War II and the Korean War. He played his entire 19 year career for the Boston Red Sox. Williams was known as the best hitter of his era. Williams was a 17 time all-star, two time triple crown winner, two time American League MVP.Ted Williams interrupted his carrer in 1943 when he had to go and serve three years in the US Navy and Marines Corps for World War II. Williams returned to baseball in 1946 and he resume his baseball career. Williams retired in 1960, with a career .344 career batting average and 500 home runs. Williams was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966, recieving more than 93% of the votes. Ted Williams i known now a days in boston as "The Best Hitter of All-Time". The #9 has been retired by the Boston Red Sox, no red sox can wear #9 anymore.
WILLIE MAYS(NEW YORK GIANTS, NEW YORK METS, CENTER FIELDER)
Willie Howard Mays Jr. nicknamed the "Say Hey Kid", was born May 6, 1931 in Westfield, Alabama. Mays is considered as the best center fielder that the game has ever seen. He spent most of his career playing for the New York Giants. Mays won two MVP trophies and was selected to the all-star game 24 times that is most of all-time. Mays became popular after making the famous "over the head catch". Mays was drafted by the US Army in 1952 for the Korean War. Mays ended his career with 660 home runs that is ranked third all-time. Also he had a record 12 gold glove awards, this award is giving to the best defensive player in each position. In 1979 six years after he retired he was introduced into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mays #24 was retired by the now San Francisco Giants.
BABE RUTH(NEW YORK YANKEES, BOSTON RED SOX, BOSTON BRAVES RIGHT FIELDER)
George Herman Ruth Jr. known in the baseball world as Babe Ruth. Was born on February 6, 1895. Ruth wasnt just an outfielder he was also a pitcher. Babe ruth is known for his famous called shot. The year was 1932 it was the fifth inning of game 3 of the World Series between New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs, Ruth looked into the bleacher and pointed gesturing where he was going to hit the next pitch. Next pitch comes and Ruth hit it right where he pointed. Ruth made his debut in 1914 With the Boston Red Sox, then it was sold in 1919 to the Yankees for the sum of $1.3 million dollars. In 1924 Ruth enrolled into the New York Army National Guard. Through all his career Ruth weight was always a topic of discussion, people in baseball thought that he wasnt going to be able to keep up with the game having all that weight. Ruth proved everyone wrong he went on to 2 all-star games, 7 time world series champion(1915,1916,1918,1923,1927,1928,1932), AL MVP in 1923. Ruth was also AL MVP in the year 1923. Ruth went on to have an amazing career. He won the Home Run title 12 times, he was 6 time RBI champion. In 1923 he was the batting champion. With all those amazing batting stats he went on to also be AL ERA Champion in 1916. ERA Champion award is awarder to the pitcher that allows the least runs through out the season.Ruth # 3 is retired in both Red Sox and Yankee uniforms. #3 Also has a monument in Yankee stadium. Babe Ruth was inducted into the hall of fame in 1935.
RON SANTO(CHICAGO CUBS, CHICAGO WHITE SOX 3RD BASE)
Santo was born in February 25,1940, in Seattle, Washington. Santo made his debut in 1960 for the Chicago Cubs. Santo is known as role model for young kids out there. He was diagnosed with diabetes when he was only 12 years old. Santo played his whole career with the disease and didnt let him affect him in any way.Santo was the second player ever to hit 300 home runs as a third baseman. He was a 9 time all-star a 5 time gold glove award winner in third base.Ron Santo retired in 1974 after playing just one season with the other chicago team , the White Sox. He finished his career with a .277 batting average, 342 career home runs, 2,254 hits, and 1,331 RBI. Ron Santo was inducted into the hall of fame in 2012 two years after his death.
OZZIE SMITH(SAN DIEGO PADRES, ST. LOUIS CARDINALS SHORT STOP)
Osborn Earl Smith known as Ozzie smith was born December 25,1954, in Mobile, Alabama. Known in the baseball world as the "wizard" for his defensive brilliance, smith is considered by most the best shortstop of all time. Smith made his debut on April 7, 1978 with the San Diego Padres. He was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982. Smith career took off when he joined the Cardinals, he and the cardinalds won the World Series in 1982. He was selected to 15 all star games. He also won 13 gold glove awards to go along with a silver slugger award in 1987. Without a doubt Smith strongest suit was his defensive play and his great personality inside a baseball field.He finished his career with an .262 batting average, 2,460 hits,and 540 stolen bases. Smith #1 number was retired by the St.Louis Cardinals the same year that Smith retired from baseball. Smith was inducted into the hall of fame in 2002.
JACKIE ROBINSON(BROKLYN DODGERS 2ND BASE)
Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo, Georgia. Jackie Robinson became the first black player to play among the white leagues in 1946. In 1947 the owner of the Broklyn Dodger decided to give robinson a chance with the big league club. Robinson was the first african-american to play in the major leagues. Robinson had to take all kind of racial abuse by fans and teams around the league.Jackie overcame all obsticles and led the Dodgers to 6 world series and campturing the 1955 World Series. He was a 6 time all-star. Robinson also won the NL MVP and the Rookie of the Year awards. Even though he only played 7 seasons in the majors he made one of the biggest impacts this game has ever seen. #42 has been retired by all major league clubs, now a days major league celebrates his legacy on April 15(Jackie Robinson Day). All MLB Players wear #42 on that day in his honor. Robinson was inducted into the hall of fame in 1962.
JIMMIE FOXX(PHILADELPHIA A's, BOSTON RED SOX, PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES 1ST BASE)
James Emory "Jimmie Foxx" was born in October 22,1907 in Sudlersville, Florida. Foxx made his MLB debut in 1925 for the Philadephia Athetics's at the age of 18. In 1929 Foxx had a breakout campaign batting .354 with 33 home runs. In 1932 he was just 3 points way from winning the triple crown, hitting an amazing .364 58 home runs and 168 rbi's. Foxx won back to back MVP awards in 1932 and 1933. In 1936 after the Athletics owner had difficulties keeping the salary of players, Foxx was sold to the Boston Red Sox for $150,000. Foxx continue his amazing career with Boston where he won another MVP award in 1938 making him only the 9 player to won three MVP awards. Foxx career diminished at the beggining of 1942, sources said that the reason was his drinking problem. That year Foxx splitted the season playing for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.He did not play the 1943 season, he returned in 1944 but only played 15 games. Foxx ended up going back to the first team he had ever played the Phillies who had moved to Philadephia. Foxx played in philadephia mostly as a pitcher and he retired as a pitcher. He played 20 seasons in the big leagues. He was a 9 time all-star,2 time world series champion,3 times MVP,and a triple crown winner in 1933. Foxx was inducted into the hall of fame in 1951.
JOHNNY BENCH(CINCINNATI REDS CATCHER)
Johnny Lee Bench was born December 7, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.Bench made his MLB debut in 1967 for the Cincinnati Reds. He was part of "The Big Red Machine" that won 6 division titles 4 NL pennants,and 2 world series titles. Bench without a doubt is the best at his position(Catcher). In 1968 Bench went on to win Rookie of the Year honors in his very first full MLB season. In 1970 He became the youngest player to win an MVP award, he was 22. That year Bench batted .293 with 45 home runs and 148 rbi's. Two years later in 1972 Bench won his second NL MVP award. His las t three seasons in the big leagues he spent them playing mostly 1st base and 3rd base. Bench popularized the catcher mitt, the mitt was first introduced by Nick Hundley of the Chicago Cubs, but Bench started using it more and more after he spent some time on the disable list. The Cincinnati Reds honored Bench career by making September 17, 1983 "Johnny Bench Night" at the River Front Stadium. On September 29 of the same year Johnny Bench retire from baseball. He finished his career with 389 home runs at the time it was most by any catcher,14 time all-star,2 time world series champion,10 time gold glove award winner,Rookie of the Year, NL MVP twice and World Series MVP once. He was inducted into the hall of fame in 1989 receiving 96% of votes.
CY YOUNG(CLEVELAND SPIDERS,BOSTON RUSTLERS PITCHER)
Den True known as Cy Young was born March 29,1867 in Gilmore, Ohio. Cy young is known as the best pitcher of all time. He made his debut in 1890 for a team called the Cleveland Spiders. He compiled many records for pitchers, he has 511 career wins which the most all time. In addition he holds the record for most innings pitches by a pitcher(7,355), most games started(815), most complete games(749).Cy holds the record for wins in a season he won 33 games in 1901. Cy young is without of doubt The best pitcher of all time, now a days MLB rewards the best pitcher each season with the Cy Young award.Cy young retire in 1911 while playing for the Boston Rustlers. He finished his career with 511 career wins,2 time ERA champion,2 time strikeout champion,5 time wins champion,2 time save champion,world series championin 1903,a perfect game in1904, 3 no hitters,and a pitching triple crown winner.Cy young was inducted into the hall of fame in 1937.
